But manager Jim Leishman said: "Noel's injury is not as bad as we first thought and he looks like being out for three of our weeks rather than six."

Whelan added: It's frustrating. I was given a one-year deal on Friday and was really looking forward to Saturday.

"I went up for a header, landed awkwardly and knew straight away I had a problem."
