Darren Dods was wanted by the previous Tannadice boss |
Dundee United manager Craig Levein believes the capture of Darren Dods from Inverness Caledonian Thistle will prove vital for his young players. United have confirmed that the 31-year-old has signed a pre-contract agreement to join United in June.
"Darren will bring solidity to the defence," Levein told his club website.
"And his leadership qualities are well known and will benefit the team as a whole. He will bring exactly the type of experience we require."
Dods had originally been a target for Levein's predecessor at Tannadice, Craig Brewster.
But Inverness refused to allow the centre-half to rejoin the former Caledonian Thistle player-manager in Tayside.
Levein has continued United's interest but will have to wait until the end of his current contract before getting his man.
"Looking to the future, we have a number of very young players in the team and experience is not only required to help them develop but is vital to the success of any side," said Levein.
"I am therefore pleased to announce that Darren Dods has agreed a two-year deal with us."
Dods, previously with Hibernian and St Johnstone, joined Inverness in July 2004 and currently captains United's Scottish Premier League rivals.
