Ryan hails O'Driscoll achievement

Ryan believes Doncaster already play Championship-quality football

Doncaster chairman John Ryan has branded his manager Sean O'Driscoll "the Arsene Wenger of League One" after their promotion to the Championship.

Rovers beat Leeds 1-0 in Sunday's play-off final at Wembley.

Ryan said: "It is an incredible achievement and it just shows you what you can do in football.

"Sean has done a fantastic job. He is understated and doesn't like the limelight but I call him the Arsene Wenger of League One."

He added: "He'll have to be the Sean O'Driscoll of the Championship now though."

Doncaster created a host of first-half chances but had to wait until the 47th minute before breaking the deadlock when James Hayter headed home Brian Stock's corner.

Victory secured Doncaster a third promotion in five years and a return to the second tier of English football for the first time in 50 years.

"Five years ago we were in non-league football and Leeds were playing in the Premier League. David beat Goliath here and I think quite deservedly too," Ryan added.

"I can't imagine another team has gone from the Conference to the Championship as quickly as we have."
