Fans see Doncaster win at Wembley

The goal was Hayter's first for Doncaster since January

Thousands of football fans have seen Doncaster Rovers beat local rivals Leeds United in the League One play-off finals at Wembley.

More than 70,000 fans travelled from Yorkshire to see the match, which saw James Hayter score the winning goal.

Leeds had defied the odds to reach the play-off final after being deducted 15 points for breaking insolvency rules.

Next season Doncaster will play in the second tier of English football for the first time since 1957.

Leeds boss Gary McAllister had urged his side to seize the chance of Wembley glory.

Before the match he said: "My hindsight and experience tells me that when crucial moments come along, you've got to try and grab them. This is our moment."

Doncaster 'underdogs'

Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "We'll go to Wembley as the underdogs and with less fans, but those fans have really got behind us this season and the Leeds fans will make it a great atmosphere as well."

Train operators have put on extra services for fans travelling back to Leeds and Doncaster.

British Transport Police officers will be at stations and travelling on trains.

Ch Insp Jane Townsley said most fans would behave themselves, but an increased police presence was needed to reassure passengers and staff.

She said anti-social behaviour would not be accepted and banning orders would be sought for anyone committing a football-related offence on the railways or at stations.
