Derby County's owners insist they have not received an offer from former chairman Peter Gadsby to buy the club.
Gadsby, who left the Rams in 2008, said that a representative approached chairman Andy Appleby with an offer to buy share capital in Derby.
The club's American owners confirmed they had received a letter on behalf of Gadsby but said it did not constitute a formal offer.
The statement added that the Rams were not for sale.
Derby's owners also said that they were disappointed that Gadsby had chosen to conduct his affairs in the media.
