Derby County striker Steven Davies has signed a new one-year contract which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2012 season.
The 23-year-old, whose deal was due to run out this summer, has struggled with injury since joining in June 2008.
But manager Nigel Clough told the club website: "Steven has the ability to become an established player.
"The contract is a reward for all the hard work he has put in since the end of last season."
Davies, who moved to Pride Park from Tranmere Rovers, suffered a knee ligament injury in pre-season training last July.
But he has returned to action in recent weeks and scored in the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth on Saturday.
But Clough added: "Steven proved to us in the summer just how determined he was to put a stop-start two years behind him; he reported back in fantastic shape.
"The injury he suffered in pre-season was exceptionally unlucky and throughout his rehabilitation programme his focus was undeterred.
"His character has been a breath of fresh air, he has worked incredibly hard and if anyone deserves a slice of good fortune, it is Steven."
The Rams also have the option of extending the deal by a further year.
