Barnes wants to take his game to the Premier League
Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes has said he was frozen out of the first team by former manager Paul Jewell.
The 20-year-old got two goals in their League Cup clash against Manchester United under new manager Nigel Clough.
Barnes told BBC Radio Derby: "I have been fit for a while but I just wasn't getting played for reasons I don't even know myself.
"The new manager's come in and started me in his first game, so that shows he's got a lot of belief in me."
Barnes added: "It's given me a new fresh start."
And he said he was looking forward to taking on Rams' rivals Nottingham Forest in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday - the side he played for as an Under-14.
"It's going to be amazing for the fans and manager as well.
"With Billy coming back there's a little bit of added spice."
Barnes said he wants to ultimately take his game to the top flight.
"I'm at Derby now but everyone wants to play in the Premier League and go as far with their career as they can and if that's with Derby than that's great."
