Commons hopes win will boost Rams

Kris Commons
Commons put Derby ahead after 30 minutes

Derby winger Kris Commons hopes the Rams improve their league form after the win over Manchester United and the appointment of new boss Nigel Clough.

Commons' first-half goal was enough to seal Derby's victory over Sir Alex Ferguson's side in Wednesday's first leg of the semi-final.

"Hopefully we'll get on a roll and take that form into the league against QPR and Cardiff," he told BBC Radio Derby.

"I'm delighted that Nigel's come on board - it's one step forward now."

The former Nottingham Forest midfielder said he hoped he had impressed new manager Clough.

"Nigel will have his own ideas. Perhaps he wants to play me on the left but he's seen now that I can play alongside a centre forward as well.

"The name Clough around these parts is legendary not just at Derby but at Nottingham Forest too.

"He's an admired man and seeing Nigel come in gave the boys inspiration."
