Club chairman Adam Pearson said a cooling-off period was needed

Derby goalkeeper Roy Carroll has been suspended for two weeks by the club following a dressing room incident in the 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.

Chairman Adam Pearson revealed there was a heated verbal exchange between Carroll and boss Paul Jewell.

In a statement to the press, he said: "The manager has acted strongly and decisively to deal with the situation.

"It is in everyone's best interest for Roy to have a two-week 'cooling off' period before returning to work."

It means the 31-year-old former Manchester United keeper, who joined the Rams in January, will not be available for matchday selection and will not be allowed at the training ground.

Roy will return to the squad in two weeks' time to compete for his place in the team

Rams chairman Adam Pearson
Reserve goalkeeper Stephen Bywater is expected to take his place, starting with Tuesday night's match at Wolves.

Pearson added: "As far as I'm concerned, and everyone else at the club, the matter is now dealt with and closed.

"Roy will return to the squad in two weeks' time to compete for his place in the team along with every other player."
