Derby County manager Paul Jewell says he will keep working until Thursday's emergency loan deadline in an effort to bring in up to three players.
Jewell said it was important to bolster the current squad and is looking at a number of positions.
He told BBC Radio Derby: "We need some fresh legs.
"I spoke to a manager [on Tuesday] - we need two or three players just to give some of the lads a breather and some more competition."
Jewell said he wants players to fit in Derby's central defence, midfield and up front.
