Derby County boss Paul Jewell has included Claude Davis and Stephen Bywater in his 21-man squad for the Rams training camp in Holland.
Davis has not played since having knee surgery in February but Jewell told BBC Radio Derby the defender is ready to fight for his place.
"Claude was training with Jamaica, he's fit, he's well, we've got a lot of centre-backs so competition's intense."
Goalkeeper Bywater spent the end of last season on loan at Ipswich Town.
The former West Ham player featured in 17 games for the Portman Road club but they have not requested a permanent move.
Jewell wants to make it clear that just because some players are absent from the tour squad does not mean they are not in his plans for next season.
"I think you can read too much into those that are going and those that aren't going.
"Andy Todd won't be going, Lewis Price won't because there is no point in taking three goalkeepers, Benny Feilhaber and Mo Camara are not going, the injured players like Giles Barnes won't be going.
"It's still early days, there is a long way before the season starts. Whichever team starts or whatever group we take away I wouldn't read into that too much into that."
The Rams pre-season tour culminates in a friendly against Dutch second division side FC Top Oss on Friday.
