Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins insists he could force want-away midfielder Ferrie Bodde to stay at the club.
He spoke out after Derby chairman Adam Pearson said the 26-year-old Dutchman is "desperate" to move to Pride Park and is already house-hunting.
The Rams have offered up to 2m for the Swans playmaker, but Jenkins told BBC Wales he is in "no rush" make a decision.
And when asked if he could force Bodde stay at the Liberty, he said: "Yes."
Bodde joined a year ago from Dutch side ADO Den Haag for 80,000 and has been one of the Swans' star performers as they won promotion to the Championship.
But he handed in a transfer request after Derby's interest surfaced.
That was turned down along with two bids from the relegated Premier League side who have now made a third offer.
"We can certainly keep a player," said Jenkins.
"I think Manchester United have gone on record saying Ronaldo will stay come what may and I think that's what stance clubs should take.
"Our main aim is to make sure the squad is right for the start to the season - that is our priority.
"We will have to deal with the Ferrie Bodde situation that has been created, but from our point of view, there's no rush."
Jenkins dismissed suggestions Bodde is house-hunting Pearson told BBC Radio Derby that wants to join the Rams.
He said: "The player has made it absolutely clear that he is desperate to go to Derby.
"I think the situation is he's even looking for houses in Derby. We're not fuelling that. It's the agents who are fuelling that because, obviously, they want to get a better deal.
"I think they feel that the fee we've put in is fair.
"To be fair to Swansea, he's their player and they will ask for whatever fee they want but I know the player wants to come and he is absolutely adamant he wants to play his football here.
"How that leaves his situation at Swansea is for them to decide."
