Derby defender Alan Stubbs says manager Paul Jewell was well within his rights to berate the players after the 2-0 defeat against fellow strugglers Wigan. Jewell said his side were a "disgrace" and were "embarrassing" to watch.
Stubbs told BBC Radio Derby: "There were a few home truths spoken and whether players like it or not they have to take it on the chin.
"Sometimes the truth hurts but it's up to us to give the boss a response and he doesn't think he's getting it."
Jewell was furious following Saturday's defeat on his first return to the JJB Stadium since quitting last May.
"I'm embarrassed at the way we played," said Jewell. "I can accept losing but not like that, it was a disgrace.
"Some players are not worthy of being here and the sooner we can get them out the better."
