Davey left Darlington after just 11 weeks in the job
Simon Davey has defended his decision to resign as manager of Darlington just 11 weeks into the job.
He told the Evening Gazette: "While I was away in America I received a fantastic financial offer from a USA soccer company.
"After long consideration with my family, I decided to resign."
Davey also said he felt it right to inform the club of his resignation via email, insisting his decision had to be communicated formally.
He added: "I left Darlington FC for reasons that I think the football club would understand completely. In football, and generally, we all have to do what we consider to be the best for our families - and that sometimes means making difficult decisions.
As to the Darlo fans, I'm sorry if some of them feel disappointed but, of course, I understand why they feel that way

"Therefore I left Darlington and did so properly and having given the required notice."
He denied reports of any disagreement between himself and the Quaker's chairman Raj Singh, saying that Singh had been supportive of him throughout his short spell as Darlington manager.
Davey admitted that his decision to resign may have angered supporters: "As to the Darlo fans, I'm sorry if some of them feel disappointed but, of course, I understand why they feel that way.
"If they continue to support [new manager] Ryan [Kidd] and the lads we brought in - and the players Ryan will want to bring in himself - then I've no doubt that they will bounce out of that division in one season."
