Staunton urges Quakers to graft

Staunton has guided Darlington to two wins during his time in charge

Darlington boss Steve Staunton has urged his players to keep working hard and hopes their effort can lift the club clear of danger in League Two.

The Quakers are bottom of the Football League, eight points adrift of safety with just two wins all season and 14 defeats from 18 games.

"We know we can win a game and need to do it on a consistent basis," Staunton told BBC Tees.

"Hopefully the harder we work, the more our luck will change."

Notts County host Darlington on Tuesday, with the Magpies unbeaten at home and the Quakers hoping to pick up a second point on the road this season.

However the former Republic of Ireland boss is convinced his side have a winning mentality and has played down their disappointing form on the road.

"It doesn't matter whether we're home or away we are in a position where we are because we haven't been getting results," he said.

"At least since I've come in we've won two games, and I'm sure with a bit of luck and rub of the green we would have had more points on the board."
