Maddison is assisting former team-mate Craig Liddle at Darlington
Darlington caretaker assistant Neil Maddison believes the vacant managerial position will be well subscribed despite the club's league status.
The Quakers lie bottom of the table ahead of Tuesday's League Two visit of Rochdale but Maddison thinks the poor form could be an incentive for some.
"Some will say whoever does come in has nothing to lose," he told BBC Tees.
"People will think 'If I keep these up and get a few points then I'll be hailed as a decent manager'."
Darlington parted company with former boss Colin Todd after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town, after a tally of two points from eight league games.
We'll do the best we can to try to get some results and get points on the board and take it from there
Neil Maddison on his and Craig Liddle's caretaker role at Darlington
Chairman Raj Singh has appointed former player Craig Liddle as caretaker manager, with Maddison as assistant, but the former Quakers and Southampton midfielder is refusing to look beyond a temporary role at this time.
"We're employed by Darlington Football Club, and we've got a duty to take the club on and do the best we can," he added.
"If it leads to other things, it leads to other things, but at this moment in time we'll do the best we can to try to get some results and get points on the board and take it from there."
