Darlington's administration team have denied reports that a failure to find a buyer by their 20 April deadline will see the club fold.

Dave Clark from Brackenbury Clark says the cut-off date was set to encourage a response from potential buyers who had stalled on registering interest.

"We felt there were people waiting but we want them to come forward as soon as possible," he told BBC Tees.

"The longer we're here, the more detrimental it will be to the club."

The Quakers entered administration for a second time in the last six years in February and chairman George Houghton has donated £150,000 to the club to ensure the club's status remains intact until the end of the season.

And Clark admits the current situation is relatively stable, thanks to the co-operation of the club's players and staff.

"We've managed to get the club's finances on a level keel, let's just say," he said.

"We've had to take cost cutting exercises, we've also had support from the chairman and that's helped us keep those exercises to a minimum.

"Ongoing the players are still deferring their wages, the staff are still taking a wage deferral and we're not in a position where we're making vast profits."
