Penney is confident of achieving promotion this season
Darlington manager Dave Penney has urged his players to stake a claim for promotion over the festive period and take control at the top of League Two.
The Quakers are in seventh place with 33 points, just two points off Bury in second spot.
And Penney told BBC Tees: "Nobody wants to grab it and run away with it except for Wycombe.
"There's ten teams that are fighting but it's a busy Christmas period and there's lot of points to play for."
The past 12 months have been difficult for Penney and his side, with heartbreak in the play-offs and injury worries plaguing the club's push for promotion last term.
However the former Doncaster boss is positive going into the second half of the campaign and believes his side can mount a serious challenge.
"We're out of all the cups now so that's what we've got to concentrate on," he added.
"We've got a good squad of players, we haven't got many injuries now and hopefully we can have a good finish to the season in 2009."
