Australia batsman David Warner has joined Durham as their overseas player for next season's Twenty20 Cup.

Durham had been looking for an overseas star to replace Shivnarine Chanderpaul, who will be absent until late June.

He was he first man to debut for Australia without any first-class experience since 1877 and hit a 43-ball 89 in a Twenty20 against South Africa

The 22-year-old said: "I've heard great things about Durham and am delighted to be joining them later this year."

He added: "The team has done really well recently and I want to be able to play a major role in making sure that success continues.

606: DEBATE

"I enjoy playing Twenty20 cricket and to be brought in especially to play in the UK's domestic competition is a real honour and challenge. I can't wait."

Durham won the Division One County Championship last season after a last day win against Kent and Hampshire's defeat of Nottinghamshire.
