Pressure is affecting us - Penney

Darlington boss Dave Penney has admitted his squad is struggling to cope with the pressure of their promotion bid in League Two.

"There are not enough players in our squad who have had promotion. Some players have had long careers and not enjoyed promotion," he told BBC Tees.

"I thought I had enough leaders and characters in there but right now we haven't and it's a quiet changing room.

"People are twitching a little bit and we need to make sure we start better."

He added: "There's pressure to succeed and they've got to thrive on this."

The Quakers have struggled with injuries, particularly in the striker department, and with Julian Joachim hobbling off on Saturday Penney said he feels glum about the depth of his squad.

"I was sat here a month ago and I had six strikers. Now all of a sudden I've only got Tommy Wright," he said.

"It's tough, but the team that went out against Stockport was good enough to get a result."

Darlington lost 1-0 to County in Saturday's game, and lie in fourth place in the table.
