Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Stuart Thurgood says he is grateful to manager John Still for giving him another chance in the Football League.
The former Southend and Gillingham player switched to the club from Grays Athletic this summer.
Thurgood has started every game in the centre of midfield this season.
He told BBC Essex: "He (John Still) has given me the opportunity to prove people wrong, because I didn't get the opportunity at Gillingham I expected."
"I appreciate John coming in for me, hopefully I can repay him back on the pitch, just by working hard."
Despite suffering their first league defeat of the season last weekend, Thurgood remains optimistic at the Daggers League Two chances.
"I think we will do well this season, we've got a mixture of experienced players and young players coming through that are doing well."
