Derry joined Palace from Pompey |
Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordon has criticised the way Leeds and Ispwich conducted negotiations in trying to sign midfielder Shaun Derry. Jordan told the South London Press: "Either somebody comes up with the right deal or he stays with us.
"Ipswich wanted him on loan and were pleading poverty, but if they're so poor, why didn't they accept the 3m they were offered for Darren Bent?
"And Leeds, the way they messed Shaun about was a farce," added Jordon.
Derry, 26, had passed a medical and agreed terms on a month's loan to Leeds with a view to a two-and-a-half-year deal and a fee of around 250,000 reported to be on offer.
But Palace failed to approve the player's loan move before last Wednesday's deadline, and the move fell through.
Cash-strapped Leeds, currently struggling for form following their relegation to the Coca-Cola Championship, remain hopeful a package can be brokered in the future.
But Jordan said he was flabbergasted by Leeds' handling of the deal.
"They tried to change the deal three or four times and took the mickey out of Shaun by initially offering him wages that are well below what he deserves."
"It was an insult to Shaun, so I phoned him and told him to come back straight away.
"Then they wanted him on loan and I agreed, as long as they could guarantee they'd make it a permanent deal.
"They couldn't come up with that guarantee so the deal was off."
Meanwhile Jordan has told Tommy Black, recently spent time on loan at Sheffield United, he has no future at Selhurst Park.
"He needs to kick-start his career and it now comes down to who wants him and the player has to be sensible about it."
