Crewe midfielder Luke Murphy wants February progress

Luke Murphy
Murphy played fro Crewe under 18s when he was just 15.

Crewe Alexandra's 21-year-old academy product Luke Murphy believes that the month of February could determine their promotion claims.

The Alex are fourth in League Two and will face League Two promotion rivals Rotherham, Bury and Gillingham.

"We had a great January and the boys are on a high, so we need to build on that in the next few weeks," Murphy told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We have games coming up against good teams so it's a chance to push on."

The locally-born central midfielder has been an ever-present in the Crewe team this season, scoring three goals.

He signed professional terms in June 2008 following a successful scholarship with the Alex Academy and went onto make his senior debut in the same year.

Murphy was rewarded for his progress by signing a new two-year contract in November 2010.
