John Brayford has been captain of Crewe for the last eight matches
Crewe Alexandra captain John Brayford says his young team will not be bullied by any side in League Two.
Tempers flared during the latter stages of Crewe's 1-0 defeat to Notts County on Saturday, with both sides having a player dismissed in stoppage time.
Brayford, 22, told BBC Radio Stoke: "They're a good bunch of lads, we stick together and we do it in the right way.
"We won't let teams bully us, we'll stand our ground and hopefully then our good football will pay off."
Crewe's Ashley Westwood and Notts County's Luke Rodgers both saw red cards after a clash in the closing stages of the game.
The Alex, whose unbeaten run of four matches was ended by the Magpies, have the chance to bounce back against local rivals Port Vale at Vale Park on Saturday.
The previous meeting between the two clubs ended 2-1 to Micky Adams' side.
"If we can come out of the traps like we did against Notts County, who are one of the best teams in the league, we can get something out of it," said Brayford.
"It's nice playing local derbies, they got one over on us at the start of the season, so it's probably our turn to get one over on them."
