Crewe striker Pope joins Millers

Tom Pope
Pope was Crewe's top scorer last season with nine goals

Rotherham have broken their transfer record to sign striker Tom Pope from Crewe for a fee of around £150,000.

The 23-year-old has signed a three-year contract with the Millers.

Pope spent most of Thursday in talks with Rotherham chief executive Paul Douglas, after the two clubs agreed a fee for Crewe's top scorer last season.

He signed for the Alex from non-league Biddulph Vics in July 2006, and has scored 17 goals in 56 league games, including nine last term.

However Pope's goals were not enough to save Crewe from relegation to the bottom tier of the Football League for the first time since 1994.
