Eugen Bopp failed to hold down a regular place at the Alex
Crewe Alexandra midfielder Eugen Bopp has become the 10th player to leave the club as manager Gudjon Thordarson continues to trim his squad.
Thordarson's staff budget has been cut following relegation to League Two. And the Crewe boss says he is now looking to bring in quality and not quantity.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "We need players who are ready to compete.
"We need people in and around the squad to work and commit themselves, and be ready for whatever is thrown at them".
Crewe will start next season back in the bottom tier of English football after their relegation was confirmed following the 3-0 final-day defeat to League One champions Leicester City.
But they will attempt to climb back with a radically-altered squad.
Two players have declined new deals, defender Danny Woodards and captain Julian Baudet.
Chris McCready, Mark Carrington, Stuart Tomlinson, Josh Thompson and Luke Danville have all been told they can leave.
And earlier this week Nathan Abbey left by mutual consent, while Colin Daniel has not been offered a new contract.
Now Ukraine-born German Bopp, 25, has also had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.
Signed on a free transfer from Rotherham United by Dario Gradi in May 2007, Bopp still had 12 months of a three-year contract to run.
But he never made a single appearance under Thordarson, having made his last start on Boxing Day two days after the Icelander's appointment.
