Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Holland says he wants to bring in at least one midfield player in on loan for the visit of Stockport County on Saturday.
The Alex have Michael O'Connor suspended and Steven Schumacher out after an ankle operation.
Holland told BBC Radio Stoke: "We are doing everything we can to try and improve our squad but its not easy."
Last week Crewe missed out on Plymouth's Simon Walton, who turned down a loan move.
