Crewe Alexandra chairman John Bowler has explained why they are looking to sell transfer-listed Danny Woodards.
The 24-year-old defender refused to sign an extension to his contract and would become a free agent at the end of next season.
Bowler told BBC Radio Stoke: "We are disappointed by his decision as he's only been here for one season.
"If a player doesn't want to commit himself then we've got to think of realising his value early on."
Woodards was signed from Exeter for 30,000 and has made 45 league starts.
