Crewe have pulled out of the race to sign Mansfield's Alex John Baptiste. The Stags want 250,000 for the defender, but having agreed a deal for Liverpool defender Danny O'Donnell Crewe will not meet the valuation.
"Mansfield want a substantial amount of money, but we won't sign both Danny and Baptiste," said Crewe boss Dario Gradi.
Despite the fact Baptiste, 21, is out of contract, Mansfield are entitled to a fee and Norwich and Hartlepool are reported to be interested in him.
