Striker Bas Savage has impressed Crewe's academy manager Steve Holland during his trial spell at Gresty Road. The 24-year-old former Reading front man was released by Bristol City boss Gary Johnson at the end of last season.
Holland, who is in charge at Crewe's training ground while boss Dario Gradi and the first-team squad are in Portugal, said: "Bas has looked lively.
"I imagine we will now give him a go in one of next week's friendlies," he told the club's website.
Also on trial at Crewe is French-born Moroccan midfielder Hassan Wissam, who was recommended to the Alex by their former loan signing Madjid Bougherra.
