Ugarte helped Wrexham win the LDV Vans Trophy in 2005 | Basque striker Juan Ugarte has left Crewe by mutual consent after an unhappy year at Gresty Road. Ugarte, 25, arrived in July 2005 on a free transfer from Wrexham, where he had been a prolific goalscorer. However, he only started one Carling Cup game for Dario Gradi's side, while also making two substitute appearances in the Championship. He did rejoin Wrexham for two loan spells, but both were cut short after one game because of injury problems. Crewe keeper Ben Williams, 23, has signed a two-year contract extension after recovering from a bout of viral meningitis.
