Juan Ugarte says it was a mistake to leave Wrexham last summer for Crewe. The Spanish striker from the Basque region, 25, went to Gresty Road on a free transfer but has started just one game for Dario Gradi's side.
"I now wish that I had stayed at Wrexham - I was really happy there," Ugarte told the Daily Post.
"The only reason I left was to play at a higher level, but one day I would like to go back and do something with Wrexham."
Ugarte scored 22 times despite the Dragons' relegation to League Two last season.
But he has struggled to make an impact this term and Gradi has warned the player he could be sent on loan if he does not improve his fitness.
"The manager is not giving me a chance, which he told me he would when I signed, but the only thing I can do is work hard.
"I wanted to go out on loan, but he told me to wait until January."
