Coventry City players have backed Marlon King to have a positive impact on the playing field after the striker signed a one-year contract.

The Sky Blues have offered King a route back into football following his early release from a prison sentence for sexual assault.

Midfielder Sammy Clingan said: "He's a great player and he has been throughout his years."

Defender Ben Turner added: "He will score goals, no doubt about it."

King has already been put through his paces with his new team-mates for a number of weeks, scoring in a couple of behind-closed-doors matches.

The 30-year-old could feature for Coventry against Preston at the Ricoh Arena on Saturday (25 September).

Speaking to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Turner continued: "I've been training with him and he's really determined to put the record straight with what's happened to him.

"I don't know him that well personally but he's been good with me and I've been friendly with him.

"He seems like a fantastic player and we know about his history and the calibre that he's got.

The Sky Blues versus Preston will be live on BBC Coventry & Warwickshire from 1400 (BST).
