Essex Senior Cup final postponed because of heavy rain

Essex Senior Cup
The Essex Senior Cup was held for the first time in 1883

The final of the Essex Senior Cup, supported by BBC Essex, was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain caused the match between AFC Hornchurch and Colchester United at Dagenham & Redbridge's Victoria Road ground to be called off at 1930 BST.

A new date for the game has yet to be organised. Ryman Premier outfit AFC Hornchurch had been hoping to upset their League One rivals.

The U's are aiming to claim the trophy for the first time.

Eight first teamers had been named in their squad, including Danny Baath, John-Joe O'Toole and David Fox.

AFC Hornchurch last won the trophy in 2007 and knocked-out holders Chelmsford City in the semi-finals.
