Colchester United defender Chris Coyne expects to have to fight for his place in the starting line-up.
The club captain, 29, returned to the team against Ipswich in the Carling Cup, having been on the bench for much of the start to the season.
He told BBC Essex: "It would be unjust for me to say I warrant a spot.
"I've got to earn it like everyone else and I'm going to keep working my socks off to make sure I can cement a place in the side."
He added: "It just shows you the strength in depth that the manager's brought into the side.
"I was pleased to get a run-out, because I'm not one for sitting on the bench, I hate it and try to kick every ball for the lads."
