Hendry disputes Clyde exit story
Colin Hendry did not last long in the Clyde dugout
Hendry left Clyde sitting ninth in the Division One table
Colin Hendry says his departure from Clyde was not on compassionate grounds, as the club claimed, and that he was pressured into stepping down.

Hendry left Broadwood on 18 January and is already in talks with an English club about a return to management.

"The picture is not as it has been painted," Hendry told BBC Sport.

But Clyde director John Ruddy told the BBC: "I am surprised and disappointed that the written statement put out jointly is not being stuck to."

The former Scotland skipper's wife, Denise, suffers from ill-health and he is required to spend time caring for her and his children.

Hendry, who took the Clyde job at the start of the season, moved his family back to their English home in October, with his wife needing regular access to Preston Royal Infirmary.

However, he said he had spoken to the Clyde directors and told them that, while he could not be at the club every day, he had devised a training plan for the squad.

And he hoped to bring in Gretna forward James Grady as his assistant to help him with the running of team affairs.

"The directors okayed the plan, but two weeks ago they then said that they needed me in every day and I could not manage that," Hendry continued.

"I was doing everything in my power but I could not be in every day.

"These things are a matter of timing, and I feel that I was put in a corner.

"When I explained the situation to the chairman he told me, 'We have to part ways'."

Hendry revealed that the Cumbernauld club had offered him time away from the job.

"They initially said take three months off, but I said no, that the situation with Denise was not life threatening," he added.

"I had laid out the training plan, James Grady was coming in and so were two or three other players

"There were new additions to the board and a trust as well, perhaps they saw things differently.

"Clyde might have thought that I wouldn't be there next season with Denise due another operation.

"But I had big plans for the future.

"I was not in it for the money, in fact it cost me 20,000 to move the family back up to Scotland and 1500-a-month to rent a house.

"When I moved the family back I was doing a thousand miles a week and just covering my diesel. the job cost me money but I loved it."

MY SPORT: DEBATE

Clyde sit ninth in Division One and Hendry's exit came two days after they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Dundee United.

"I thought we were doing okay," Hendry said. "I had lost three players and we had to replace them with kids.

"I enjoyed my time there, and, although I am disappointed, I am not the type of wild man to fall out with people."

A club statement on 18 January read: "Clyde Football Club regrets to announce the resignation of Colin Hendry on compassionate grounds.

And Ruddy responded to Hendry's claims, saying: "The club did ask him what his situation was.

"We were coming to the transfer window and needed players in, and he was 250 miles away.

"Colin was up for only one or two training days and match days.

"He had no assistant and we pressed him to get one. The club made suggestions as to how we could help his family situation.

"When Colin came up there were no problems. Denise went back for an operation and things all went pear-shaped.

"The club did say to him they needed the manager to be there more often than he was managing to be there."
