Veteran striker Wayne Allison has left Chesterfield by mutual consent. The 39-year-old has been frustrated with his lack of first-team chances and was also annoyed to be overlooked for the recent assistant manager's vacancy.
Boss Lee Richardson said: "We are unlikely to offer him a role next season and fully understand the reasons why he would now like to move on."
Allison, nicknamed "The Chief", said: "I leave on good terms wishing the club every success for the future."
Defender Kevin Gray will take over Allison's role as reserve team coach until the end of the season.
Allison started his career, alongside Richardson, at Halifax Town and has also played for Watford, Bristol City, Swindon, Huddersfield Town, Tranmere Rovers, and Sheffield United, before joining Chesterfield in June 2004.
He has made a total of 878 appearances in all competitions, scoring 208 goals.
