Chester City wait on rescue bid from Danish consortium

Chester City

Chester City could still be saved from liquidation by a Danish consortium - just days before they face being expelled from the Blue Square Premier.

Danish businessman Palle Rasmussen has reached an agreement to take over the troubled club from the Vaughan family.

"We would hope to have concluded a deal with the Vaughan family in seven to 21 days' time," said Rasmussen.

"The Vaughan family will not be involved with the club after our completion of the purchase."

Conference teams are due to meet in Northamptonshire this Friday morning at Rushden & Diamonds' Nene Park (1100 GMT).

They will vote on whether crisis club City should be kicked out of the league following the escalation of their season-long problems which have now caused the cancellation of three successive fixtures.

But there is now the possibility that Chester may still survive after all.

Despite opposition from City Fans United, the club's main supporters' body, Chester Projekt.dk reached an agreement with the current owners in a meeting at the Deva Stadium on Saturday.

"We are well aware of the problems that the club currently has," added Rasmussen. "But we have done our homework and we have a detailed business plan which will enable us to rectify the current issues.

We are saying clearly and directly to the Danish consortium: We do not wish you to proceed with your bid

City Fans United statement on Chester's proposed Danish takeover

"Our plan involves developing local youth players and we have already had discussions with local coaches about our plans as well as somebody from the local council.

"It could be that we bring a few Danish players over to supplement the squad."

Rasmussen, who went on national Danish television on Sunday night to discuss the potential takeover, has also met with City Fans United.

But, in a statement issued late on Sunday night, the CFU made it clear that they do not support the planned Danish takeover.

"We were not satisfied with the very brief report we had after the meeting with the club," read the statement.

"In our opinion, the Danish consortium have no adequate business plan or strategy for running the club on a day-to-day basis.

"They do not have adequate finances to cover the current debt.

"We are saying clearly and directly to the Danish consortium: We do not wish you to proceed with your bid.

"We would however welcome you to be part of an exciting journey with us as we rebuild our club in our own vision.

"But, if you proceed without us, you are proceeding against us with all that entails."
