Beesley is at Chester on a month's loan from Cambridge United
Jim Harvey praised matchwinner Mark Beesley after he collected his first victory as Chester City manager against Gateshead on Saturday.
Striker Beesley's early second-half winner leaves Chester 21 points from safety in the Blue Square Premier.
Harvey told BBC Radio Merseyside: "Mark's very intelligent and he can find space well.
"He uses his intelligence and linked up with Anthony Barry and Clark Keltie. Some of the football was top draw."
It was Beesley's first goal for City since returning on loan from Cambridge United as Harvey's first signing.
And the new Chester boss was pleased with the manner in which all his players went about their work.
"I thought they were excellent," he said. "In the first half the football was top class. If we had come in 3-0 up at half-time, that would have been a truer reflection of the performance.
"But having taken the lead and going into the last 15 minutes, when they start to throw all the big boys down the middle and there is a bit of pressure going our way, we had to dig in and defend.
"Then they showed great determination and character to make sure we didn't concede and come away with the win. There were some terrific individual performances."
