Chester have played at the Deva Stadium since 1991 |
Chairman Stephen Vaughan has threatened to take Chester City to play in Widnes, more than 20 miles away, because of lack of support from the city council. He recently acquired a shareholding in Widnes Vikings Rugby League club and may look at a potential groundshare.
"I have ploughed in excess of 4m into Chester City and have had little help from the council in that time," Vaughan told the Chester Evening Leader.
"The Halton council does all it can for Widnes - they want a League club."
Vaughan has already applied to switch the local derby against Wrexham on 28 December from the Deva Stadium - City's home since 1991 - to the Halton Stadium, home of the Vikings, who were recently relegated from rugby's Super League.
He added: "We are giving the idea of moving serious consideration.
"Chester City brings in 2m of revenue to the economy of Chester annually, and gives regular entertainment to 3,000 of the ratepayers.
"You have to ask whether they (the Chester city council) want a football club in the city."
