Chester are facing an unpaid rent bill for the Deva Stadium |
Chairman Stephen Vaughan has assured fans that Chester's future is safe, despite legal action from the Inland Revenue and Chester City Council. As well as owing the Revenue 180,000, City have not paid rent on the Deva Stadium to the council for two years.
The council have issued proceedings to recover over 46,000 in rent arrears.
But Vaughan is adamant the Revenue's case will be settled before it reaches court on 21 September, and is hopeful of a resolution with the council.
Vaughan insisted: "It's been blown out of proportion. It's quite simple in that the Inland Revenue have come in looking for 180,000.
"I've made arrangements through our accountants to square it off, and that's the end of the matter."
He added: "The 21 September hearing won't be an issue because arrangements have been brokered.
"The deal has actually been done today (Tuesday) and we're waiting for confirmation to come back in writing."
The current lease on the stadium precludes the club from using the ground to generate other income from events such as concerts.
Vaughan wants to renegotiate the lease, but the council has said that will not happen until the rent bill is paid.
