Cheltenham rebrand badge with modern robin

Cheltenham Town club logo

Cheltenham Town have chosen a bright, modern design as the club looks to re-brand itself with a new badge.

The shield, in red, white and black, depicts a robin flying upwards.

Guy Douglas from designers flb told BBC Gloucestershire: "This was our most contemporary idea. We wanted one that represented the optimism of the club.

"In the annals of history, most of the robins have been still, waiting. This is flying upwards and moving forward. We hope it's a catalyst."

Douglas said the club started talking about re-branding in the summer of 2009, following relegation to League Two. On Saturday a 1-1 draw against Accrington ensured they start a 12th season in the Football League in August.

He added: "Bigger things will not happen at the club just by changing the badge, but it does hopefully show a greater professionalism and forward looking approach."

606: DEBATE

Fans at Saturday's final game of the season found the design interesting. One told BBC Gloucestershire: "It's very different. Many clubs have the robin on their logo, but this style gives the club a unique brand and separates us from the rest."

The former badge featured the crest of the Cotswold town.
