Schofield has great admiration for manager Martin Allen
Cheltenham Town assistant manager John Schofield has agreed a two-year deal with the club.
Schofield joined the Robins in March but had been working under Martin Allen on an expenses-only basis.
"It's a pleasure to come into work every day, it's a great environment," the 43-year-old former Lincoln City boss told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"That's all set by the manager and I love his ideas and forward thinking and that was a big draw."
He added: "I was certainly one of those people that had a perception of the manager which was way off the mark."
"Once you've worked with him, fantastic to work with and very knowledgeable. My job through the week is to implement his game plan and his strategies."
Schofield was in charge at Lincoln, where his family still live, from summer 2006 until October of the following year.
He then had a brief stint coaching at Scunthorpe United before joining Walsall as first-team coach in June 2008.
His stay there lasted only eight months and he departed in a shake-up which also saw manager Jimmy Mullen sacked.
