FA Cup run crucial for Cheltenham

Paul Baker
Bkaer says the FA Cup is more important than in previous years

Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker admits a good run in this season's FA Cup is crucial to their finances.

Ahead of Saturday's second-round trip to Morecambe, he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "the Cup is probably more important for us this year.

"We've put our necks on the block with our loan signings and we're still paying for two managers, so that extra income is urgently required.

"We will have a loss at the end of the season but we must be sensible."

He added: "We can't think short-term, if we go into next season with a massive loss that will impact on the playing budget and the viability of the club.

"The only years we have traded evenly or made a profit is when we have had good Cup runs, when we played Newcastle and West Brom before then."
