Cheltenham land Westlake on loan

Ian Westlake
Ian Westlake considered becoming a professional swimmer as a youth

Cheltenham Town have signed Leeds United midfielder Ian Westlake on a three-month loan deal.

The 25-year-old, who started his career as a trainee at Ipswich, will be available to play on Saturday's game against MK Dons.

Westlake, who was a promising swimmer in his youth, was on loan at Brighton last season, scoring two goals.

He joins Town after a successful trial, including a reserves outing against Swindon on October 14.

Westlake made more than 100 appearances for Ipswich, scoring 17 goals and winning their young player of the year award in 2004.

He transferred to Leeds in 2006, making 32 outings in two injury-marred seasons.
