Gall's former clubs include Bristol Rovers and Yeovil Town
Cheltenham manager Keith Downing says Carlisle have given him permission to talk to their transfer-listed striker Kevin Gall.
The Whaddon Road manager told BBC Radio Gloucestershire that 26-year-old Gall would be a good signing.
"We're going to speak to Kevin in the next day or two. The fee is a free one but he's got good pedigree," he said.
A David Bird equaliser secured the Robins a 1-1 draw from their latest pre-season game against West Brom.
Downing says that his close-season squad rebuilding is far from finished.
"I now need to add two, three or four players if I can. Whether that's permanent or loans will remain to be seen in the next two or three weeks," he said.
The former Wolves and Hereford coach says that two players who will not now be heading to Gloucestershire are brothers Michael and Rory Boulding.
"Michael has decided to stay nearer to his home in Sheffield," Downing told the club website.
"It's a disappointment but he's made his decision. It was not down to money or anything like that but purely the chance to stay closer to home.
"The chairman has done brilliantly to try and get him here and we put together a good package for Michael and his brother but ultimately they want to stay in the north.
"We've tried to step up the standard of players we bring in but obviously that means there is more competition.
"I'm still trying to bring people in, whether permanently or on loan, and if I have to do loans for three months, six months or longer then we'll do it that way."
