Cheltenham are interested in signing Brentford utility man Craig Pead, who played for the Robins in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Team Bath.
The 26-year-old, named in last term's PFA League Two Team of the Year, has been told he can leave even though he has a year left on his contract.
"I thought he was very steady," said manager Keith Downing. "I'll be looking at whether we can take that further."
But Pead has not travelled to their training camp in Leicestershire.
Cheltenham have included four other trialists in the travelling party - central defender Rhys Meynell, midfielder Ryan Martin, and strikers James McPike and Michael Husbands.
Transfer-listed pair Aaron Ledgister and Lee Ridley have also made the journey.
"We have not had any interest yet in Aaron or Lee," said Downing. "They are still very much part of the squad."
Town have a friendly lined up against Hinckley United on Tuesday night (15 July).
