Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker says that he hopes to make the money generated by staying in League One available for squad strengthening.

The Robins avoided relegation with a 2-1 win on Saturday against Doncaster, denying Rovers automatic promotion.

"I reckon it's worth a quarter of a million pounds, which we'd have lost by going down," he told BBC Points West.

"Hopefully we can give Keith [Downing] a little bit more money because we don't want to go through this again."

"It's been an emotional rollercoaster - all the cliches come out but we played really well against a very good side."

Baker paid tribute to the efforts of manager Keith Downing, who made the step up from assistant manager when John Ward departed for Carlisle early in the season.

"Everyone's given blood, sweat and tears for this club from the top down. Keith Downing's been superb for us, I'm delighted for him and for everyone associated with the club.

"It's so important to stay up, we've done it and we've left it late but who cares?"
