Makelele has been a success at Chelsea |
Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele is considering playing in America next season because he is uncertain whether his future lies at Stamford Bridge. The 34-year-old has one year of his deal remaining but the emergence of Mikel Jon Obi and Lassana Diarra could limit his first-team chances.
"I have not decided where I will play next season," he told The Times.
"The United States is an option. It wouldn't prevent me from playing for France, ask the coach."
If he chooses to leave west London then he would become the second high-profile player to play in America's Major League Soccer following David Beckham's move to LA Galaxy.
The France international joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in 2003 and helped the Blues win the Premiership title in 2005 and 2006.
