Charlton want to keep Jackson beyond his month's loan
Charlton manager Phil Parkinson wants to keep defender Johnnie Jackson beyond his month's loan.
The left-back, who became Parkinson's first signing while in charge at Colchester, has impressed since arriving from Notts County last month.
Parkinson told BBC Radio Kent: "Johnnie is halfway through his loan and I would like to keep him now that Grant Basey is out for the season.
"Johnnie wants to stay but financially it will be tight for us."
Jackson was forced off with a hamstring injury 41 minutes into Saturday's 2-0 defeat of bottom club Stockport County and was due to have a scan this week.
He was replaced by Kent youngster Chris Solly from Chatham, who produced an accomplished performance out of position at left-back.
The 19-year-old, who is out of contract at the season's end, won fulsome praise from Charlton first team coach Mark Kinsella, who told BBC Radio Kent: "I think he is an exceptional player.
"He's been played out of position but he just gets on with it, nothing seems to faze him. People see that he's 5ft 8in but he's got a good brain on him.
"He times his runs well, puts in good crosses and rarely gives the ball away. His attitude is outstanding.
"We always bring kids through if they're good enough and he's been knocking on the door."
Parkinson confirmed that Kelly Youga, Charlton's other left-back, is no nearer a return as he struggles to recover from bone bruising.
He made his last first team appearance in the 4-2 home win against Bristol Rovers on November 24.
